Facebook Messenger launches for Web browsers

Facebook has a lot happening at any given moment, especially when it comes to apps, and there’s probably no slowing that down anytime soon.
Keeping up with the idea that more is better, Facebook has announced a browser-based version of its popular Messenger service. The new feature has a dedicated page at Messenger.com, and it does exactly what one might think: it’s a dedicated page to access Facebook Messenger, and that’s it. The question, then, is why Facebook feels the need Messenger needs its own web page, considering Facebook users can already chat using Messenger from a web browser, thanks to just visiting their Facebook page.
According to Re/code, after speaking to a Facebook spokesperson, Messenger.com is meant to get rid of the distractions that the standard Facebook page can hand out in droves. When visiting Facebook, there’s plenty to look at, including profiles, the News Feed an whatever else. With Messenger.com, Facebook wants to provide a simple messaging tool, and that’s it.
It’s not a big surprise that Facebook would want to put a bigger focus on Messenger, considering the amount of attention it is already getting with the recently debuted “Messenger Platform,” where third-party apps can thrive. As it stands, the good news is that Facebook apparently doesn’t have any plans in dissecting Messenger from the standard Facebook page, as it did from the standard Facebook app for mobile.
