Samsung to take most of its apps to the iOS platform

Image
The long-time Apple rival, Samsung, is set to release a port of several apps to iOS later this year in an effort to increase the cross-platform appeal of its devices including speakers, tablets and fitness trackers. According to the folks over at SamMobile, Samsung is working on apps that will allow their accessories to work with iOS devices. These apps include the Gear Fit Manager and a port for S Health, which helps to log activity, food and sleep. For you iOS device owners who might not know, apps such as the Gear Fit Manager and S Health typically come preinstalled on Samsung phones, similar to apps like Health on the iOS platform. To take it one step further, the company may also release an app for its Level audio accessories and two of its respective apps, Remote Control and Family Square, originally made for the large Galaxy View tablet. The move is one that seems to go in line with Samsung’s previous efforts where the company released a Smart Camera app for iOS that co

Apple’s free app this week: MarcoPolo Ocean

Image
Apple released its new free app of the week, a virtual underwater sandbox game for kids named MarcoPolo Ocean. Apple’s App of the Week was released yesterday in iTunes and this time it’s a game called MarcoPolo Ocean. MarcoPolo Ocean is a virtual underwater sandbox game for kids and is highly rated in the kids-education-puzzler category. Those who have children should download this game as it was rated a 4.5 stars out of 5 and will be free from today until next Thursday. MarcoPolo Ocean is typically $2.99 in the App Store but for this week only, it will be free for everyone. That’s $3 in savings which is quite a bit of money for those who constantly purchase apps. The concept of the game is great because kids can explore the deep underwater world and different creatures that live in the ocean. When playing the game, you’re basically in a sandbox and can build coral reef, wander the ocean, learn about different animals, and learn new vocabulary and concepts. The game is not t

Apple got $1 billion from Google in 2014 to keep 'Google Search' as the default search engine in iOS

Image
It is no secret that Google pays Apple millions of dollars to keep Google Search as the default search engine on all iOS devices. However, it has always remained unclear as to how much money Google has actually had to pay to Apple. Now, a recent court transcript of the Oracle vs. Google debate was obtained by Bloomberg,  which reveals that Google paid Apple a staggering $1 billion in 2014. The court transcript also reveals that “at one point in time the revenue share was 34 percent.” It was not clear if this percentage was kept by Google or was paid to Apple. Since financial agreements between Apple and Google are very important and confidential in nature, both companies had requested to seal and redact the court transcript. Google even said that if these details were made public, it could severely affect its negotiation terms with other companies. Ultimately the transcript did vanish from the electronic court website at around 3 p.m. PST. Many reports over the last couple o

iOS 9.2.1 is released for public with bug fixes and security updates

Image
Apple has released iOS 9.2.1 (build number: 13D15) for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to the public, a week after releasing the first beta version of iOS 9.3 to developers. Apple seeded the first beta of iOS 9.2.1 on December 16, following the second beta finding its way to developers and public testers back on January 4. iOS 9.2, for its part, was a minor update on its own, fixing several behind-the-scenes things, improving performance, and otherwise improving the overall system. According to the release notes, iOS 9.2.1 contains security updates and bug fixes including a fix for an issue that could prevent the completion of app installation when using a MDM service.  So far, the betas have not revealed any major forward-facing changes to the software. Meanwhile, Apple has also seeded iOS 9.3 to developers and public beta testers, which includes number of new features such as Night Shift, password protected Notes, revamped News app, new 3D Touch Quick Actions and lots more. Mocrosoft building it's Flow Keyboard for iOS

Image
If emails sent out by Microsoft to members of its insider program are anything to go by, the company seems to be working on bringing its much famed World Flow keyboard to iOS.  Microsoft’s Word Flow keyboard is among the key strengths of its Windows Phone platform, so many WP fans will find it disappointing that the company will be bringing the keyboard to other smartphone platforms. Similar to SwiftKey, Word Flow allows you to swipe over alphabets in one motion to quickly frame your words and sentences. However, Microsoft’s prediction engine is far superior to that of SwiftKey and is better able to predict words and sentences. The target area of the keyboard also improves as you continue to use the keyboard, which further helps in improving typing speed. If you don’t like to swipe through alphabets, you can also tap away on the screen like the old-fashioned way. A testament to Word Flow’s prediction engine prowess, is that it broke the Guinness World Record for fastest

Apple denies the rumor of developing a tool to transfer data from ios users to android

Image
Yesterday,  a report surfaced  that suggested that Apple was building a tool that would help iOS users switch to its main competing platform, Android, if they wanted to go down that route. And while Apple doesn’t comment on rumors all that often, turns out this one was gaining enough traction, or just seemed ridiculous enough, that the company decided to end things before it got too out of hand. According to  BuzzFeed News , an Apple spokesperson said, flatly, that there’s simply “no truth to this rumor,” and went on to point out that Apple wants people to switch from Android to iOS: “There is no truth to this rumor. We are entirely focused on switching users from Android to iPhone, and that is going great.” Apple does indeed have an app that helps Android users switch to iOS, and that’s apparently working out well for the company. The original report from  The Telegraph  said that Apple was working on the tool to help users switch from iOS to Android due to “pressure” f

iOS 9.3 will support Night Mode, Touch ID for Notes, more personalized News and others

Image
Recently, Apple released the very first beta for its future public release, iOS 9.3. In light of the release, Apple has launched a dedicated page outlining what’s new. In light of some noteworthy new features coming to iOS 9.3, Apple has gone ahead and launched a dedicated landing page for those new aspects of the upcoming software. While iOS 9.3 is still just a beta, these new features will surely be worth looking forward to. That includes a better way to look at your iOS device at night, more security, and improvements to the Health and News apps. First up, a new night mode that Apple has apparently called “Night Shift.” With this, the iOS device will automatically shift its color tones to match the time of day. It will do this by automatically adjusting with the device’s clock and geolocation to keep tabs on when sunset is. The device will then shift the colors to the warmer end of the spectrum to make it easier to look at: “Many studies have shown that exposure to bri
