Microsoft reportedly building lightweight email app for iOS
On January 29, 2015, Microsoft launched its brand new Outlook app for iOS, which has become one of the most popular email apps in the App Store.
Now, according to a new report from ZDNet, and citing a leaked image from “WalkingCat,” Microsoft is already hard at work on something a bit more “lightweight.” The report suggests Microsoft is currently building an app called Flow, which is meant to work in tandem with Microsoft’s Outlook client. It’s meant to be lighter and more fluid than the standard Outlook app, and according to the report, will focus more on the “rapid email conversations on your phone with the people who are important to you.”
Here’s the text from the aforementioned leaked image that outlines what the app is, and how it should work for those that use it:
“Use Flow with anyone, it’s email: Reach anyone with an email address and all conversations for you and others are also in Outlook. Together, you can use Flow and Outlook interchangeably to participate in the same conversations.
Fast, fluid, natural conversations: No subject lines, salutations, or signatures. Flow is designed for fast, light-weight conversations in real time.Focus on what’s important: Only conversations started in Flow and their replies show up in Flow, not your whole inbox. Focus on your most important person-to-person conversations without the noise.“
It sounds a lot like a lot of other messaging apps out there, even if the focus is still on email. As ZDNet points out, this sounds similar to Microsoft’s Skype Qik app, and while the similarities are there, it wouldn’t be at all surprising that Microsoft would want to launch something new.
And, it stands to reason that even if this app is being built now for iOS, it will eventually come to Android, too. Windows 10 seems like an easy lock, too.
