Samsung to take most of its apps to the iOS platform

The long-time Apple rival, Samsung, is set to release a port of several apps to iOS later this year in an effort to increase the cross-platform appeal of its devices including speakers, tablets and fitness trackers.

According to the folks over at SamMobile, Samsung is working on apps that will allow their accessories to work with iOS devices. These apps include the Gear Fit Manager and a port for S Health, which helps to log activity, food and sleep. For you iOS device owners who might not know, apps such as the Gear Fit Manager and S Health typically come preinstalled on Samsung phones, similar to apps like Health on the iOS platform. To take it one step further, the company may also release an app for its Level audio accessories and two of its respective apps, Remote Control and Family Square, originally made for the large Galaxy View tablet.

The move is one that seems to go in line with Samsung’s previous efforts where the company released a Smart Camera app for iOS that connects with some of its compact cameras. This app is also said to be receiving an update that will bring a whole new interface to the mix. In its current form, the app can copy images and videos as well as handle some remote control functions such as the ability to serve as a viewfinder. Furthermore, Samsung even went as far as announcing iOS support for its Gear S2 smartwatch.

When you compare this to Apple’s offering, the Cupertino California-based company doesn’t offer support for any Samsung devices with the only exception being two Apple-made Android apps: Apple Music and Move to iOS. Here, Apple Music makes sense in an effort to increase revenue and Move to iOS serves as an app to help onboard users making the swap from the Android platform to the iOS platform.

We’ll have to wait and see how this move impacts both Apple and Samsung going forward.
