Galaxy Z Fold7 Sets New Benchmark with Unprecedented U.S. Demand

Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 achieved the highest number of pre‑orders ever for the Z Fold series in the United States, surpassing all prior models in U.S. history.

Since its availability on July 25, 2025, pre-orders for the Fold 7 have been running nearly 50% ahead of the Galaxy Z Fold 6  .

Pre-order Growth & Carrier Trends

Combined pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are up more than 25% compared to last year’s Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 models in the U.S..

U.S. carrier channels reported a 60% surge in pre-orders for these two foldable models, thanks in part to strong trade-in deals, promotional discounts, and 0% APR payment plans.

 What’s Driving the Surge?

Samsung credits several key upgrades that resonated with consumers:

1. Slimmer, lighter design — making it the sleekest Galaxy Z Fold to date and enhancing portability.

2. Camera upgrade — a 200 MP main rear sensor also found on the S25 Ultra, elevating photo performance for foldables.

3. Galaxy AI & Gemini Live — powerful generative editing and live multimodal assistant tools built into Flex mode and other contexts.

4. Improved hinge durability — Armor FlexHinge offers reduced creasing and better longevity in a lightweight frame.

5. Samsung’s iterative response to customer feedback, refining form and usability year-over-year.

Color Preferences & Consumer Trends

Although Jet Black remains the most popular finish, the new Blue Shadow variant accounted for nearly 50% of Fold 7 pre-orders, an unexpectedly high share.

The Coralred color of the Flip 7 captured about 25% of its pre-orders, exceeding internal expectations  .

 Broader Impact

This milestone marks a clear turning point: Foldable devices are gaining mainstream traction in the U.S. — no longer niche, they’re now viable alternatives to regular flagship phones.

Competitive carrier deals—like heavy discounting and installment plans—are clearly boosting accessibility and fueling demand.

In short

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 set a new U.S. preorder record for its series.

It's selling ~50% faster than the Fold 6 since launch.

Alongside the Flip 7, total pre-orders rose by 25% year-over-year, with carriers alone seeing a 60% uptick.

Enhanced design, cameras, AI tools, and durability—a response to user feedback—are driving the surge.

New color options like Blue Shadow and Coralred are resonating strongly with buyers.

This performance strongly positions Samsung’s foldable line as the new mainstream smartphone category in the U.S. market.
