The long-time Apple rival, Samsung, is set to release a port of several apps to iOS later this year in an effort to increase the cross-platform appeal of its devices including speakers, tablets and fitness trackers. According to the folks over at SamMobile, Samsung is working on apps that will allow their accessories to work with iOS devices. These apps include the Gear Fit Manager and a port for S Health, which helps to log activity, food and sleep. For you iOS device owners who might not know, apps such as the Gear Fit Manager and S Health typically come preinstalled on Samsung phones, similar to apps like Health on the iOS platform. To take it one step further, the company may also release an app for its Level audio accessories and two of its respective apps, Remote Control and Family Square, originally made for the large Galaxy View tablet. It is no secret that Google pays Apple millions of dollars to keep Google Search as the default search engine on all iOS devices. However, it has always remained unclear as to how much money Google has actually had to pay to Apple. Now, a recent court transcript of the Oracle vs. Google debate was obtained by Bloomberg,  which reveals that Google paid Apple a staggering $1 billion in 2014. The court transcript also reveals that “at one point in time the revenue share was 34 percent.” It was not clear if this percentage was kept by Google or was paid to Apple. Since financial agreements between Apple and Google are very important and confidential in nature, both companies had requested to seal and redact the court transcript. Yesterday,  a report surfaced  that suggested that Apple was building a tool that would help iOS users switch to its main competing platform, Android, if they wanted to go down that route. And while Apple doesn’t comment on rumors all that often, turns out this one was gaining enough traction, or just seemed ridiculous enough, that the company decided to end things before it got too out of hand. According to  BuzzFeed News , an Apple spokesperson said, flatly, that there’s simply “no truth to this rumor,” and went on to point out that Apple wants people to switch from Android to iOS: “There is no truth to this rumor. If sources of  The Telegraph  are to be believed, mobile operators in the EU are mounting pressure on Apple to make the process of transferring their data from an iPhone to an Android device easier. As per a “senior industry source”, Apple has already agreed to the demands of operators and will develop a simple tool to allow customers to transfer their data from an iPhone to an Android device. Operators believe that the lack of a data transfer tool can act as a potential deterrent for technologically challenged customers from leaving Apple’s ecosystem. This also gives Apple an upper hand in negotiations over them, which the operators are looking to nullify. At a press conference held at the show floor of CES 2016 in Las Vegas, Samsung announced that it will be adding iOS support to Gear S2 later this year. The company also launched a gold and platinum colored variant of the smartwatch targeted towards females and executives.  The former is plated with 18k gold, while the latter is platinum plated. The pricing of both variants were not disclosed by the company, but don’t expect them to come for cheap. Unlike the majority of other smartwatches out there, the Gear S2 runs on Samsung’s own Tizen OS. The smartwatch features a unique rotating bezel that makes it easy to interact with it. You also have the option of using the touchscreen and the dedicated home and back buttons located on the right edge of the watch. In August of 2015, Twitter officially bumped up the character limit of its Direct Message feature to 10,000. Now some other changes might be in store for the social network. The change to make DMs have a 10,000 character limit has apparently gone well for Twitter, as according to a report from  Re/code , that change could be making the leap to standard tweets at some point in the future. The report states that Twitter has a team working on a project called “Beyond 140,” and that the sole reason for its existence is to bump up the character limit for standard tweets, well, beyond 140 characters. “Twitter is building a new feature that will allow users to tweet things longer than the traditional 140-character limit, and the company is targeting a launch date toward the end of Q1, according to multiple sources familiar with the company’s plans. As CES 2016 is just around the corner, technology companies the world over are getting ready to blitz us with some great (and some not so great) ideas throughout the event. One of those that will have a big presence at CES 2016 is Samsung, and if the advertising artwork that it is hanging in the main hallway at CES is anything to go by, it seems the smart fridge is once again making a comeback. The artwork doesn’t really give too much away other than to show what appears to be one of the company’s new smart fridges, but with what seems to be a large touchscreen on one of the doors. Less than two weeks after Samsung paid Apple upwards of $548 million for infringing the design of the iPhone and its associated patents, Apple has requested the U.S. court to ask Samsung to pay it an additional $180 million. The company claims in its court papers that Samsung owes Apple nearly $180 million in supplemental damages and interest. In court papers filed on Wednesday, Apple Inc said Samsung Electronics Co Ltd owes nearly $180 million in supplemental damages and interest. Samsung has already filed an appeal in the U.S. Supreme Court regarding the case. The company argues that it has paid Apple more than what it deserves for its patents and designs. HTC has released a trio of new ads today to promote its 2015 flagship handset — the One M9. In the adverts, the company conducts a “blind test” where it pits the M9 against the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy S6. In the first advert, HTC pits the One M9 against the Galaxy S6 in a race where users were required to open a series of apps, jump between them and click a selfie in between. The winner — obviously — was the One M9, though the users in the video thought that the winning phone was from Samsung or Apple. In the second test, some visitors at Bondi Beach were required to take low-light selfies from two different phones, both of which were concealed in cases. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 has been revealed ahead of its official debut, courtesy of the FCC. The 8-inch device was recently certified by the FCC, which may suggest its launch is getting close. The images published by the FCC confirm the Galaxy Tab S2’s 4:3 aspect ratio — the same as the iPad’s — as well as its design. The device looks a lot like a giant Galaxy Note or Galaxy Mega, with what appears to be a soft-touch plastic back. Based on what we’ve been expecting from the Galaxy Tab S2 lineup, these images are somewhat disappointing. Recent leaks promised a premium design much like that of the Galaxy S6, with an aluminum frame sandwiched between glass. The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge come with a new version of TouchWiz that is lighter, faster and looks better than previous versions of the skin. Additionally, Samsung has also included a theme store to allow users to customise the look of the handset according to their liking. On paper, Samsung’s theme store sounds like a great idea, but the company has faltered greatly on its execution. The theme store is filled with themes that look like they have been made by a 5-year old kid. It was only recently that Samsung selected certain third-party developers to publish their themes on the theme store, but any decent theme from these developers is yet to be released. Thankfully for Galaxy S6 and S6 edge owners, XDA recognised themer  HS  has made a beautiful dark red theme for the handset. Chrome for Android continues to get better, as Google has just showcased a brand new feature for the browser that should make searching even faster. This new feature, what’s called “Tap to Search,” is similar to the showcase of Google Now on Tap, which the company unveiled at this year’s I/O conference in May. It’s similar due to the feature’s ability to pay attention to context, and use the power of Google to look up exactly what you were looking for just based on one word. As Google demonstrates in the quick showcase, tapping on the word “America” while reading an article about the upcoming film,  Captain America: Civil War , Tap to Search will find information on the movie, and bring up relevant information as such. That includes release info, cast, and more. The information will be presented in a bottom drawer that can be drawn upwards to read more about what was searched for. The HTC One M9 comes in a variety of colors already, but apparently HTC wasn’t content with not having a phone that wasn’t 24-karat gold. On Friday, June 5, HTC officially unveiled a brand new variant of the One M9, but this one’s a limited edition model. This particular handset is a hallmark to the end of the UEFA Champions League season, as well as the final for the Champions League. It’ll be handed out to a few lucky winners beginning tomorrow, with the UEFA Champions League title on the back. There’s also seating information below that, interestingly enough. Samsung today posted two video on its YouTube channel under its new ‘Galaxy S 6 V 6′ advertising campaign where it has compared the Galaxy S6 to the iPhone 6 The first ad begins with the company boasting about how the edge display on the Galaxy S6 edge flashes different color depending on the caller, and proceeds to mock the iPhone 6 for its traditional LCD display and for including a vibration function. The video then highlights the different tickers of the Galaxy S6 edge display that provides users with quick access to weather, news, sports updates and more, and again mocks the iPhone 6 for only featuring buttons on its edges. After teasing the  Galaxy S6 edge Iron Man edition on Twitter for a couple of weeks , Samsung has finally launched the handset in selected countries.  The Galaxy S6 edge Iron Man edition will come with its own specially designed wireless charger and a transparent back cover to protect the rear glass of the handset from scratches. It will feature 64GB of internal storage. Samsung also posted an unboxing video of the handset that gives us a clear look at the handset as well as the other accessories that it will ship with. The phone itself is primarily in a tone of red that matches the color of Iron Man’s armor, and features a Iron Man logo at the back as well. A couple of months after it launched the Periscope app for iOS, Twitter today announced the release of the Android version of the app. Periscope for Android packs the same features as its iOS sibling, though it does come with a few enhancements. One such feature is the “return to broadcast” option that makes it easier for users to get back to a live stream on Periscope if they were interrupted in between by a message, call or other notification. As for notifications, Android users will have the option to be notified when one of their followers starts a live stream or goes live. They can toggle notifications off, but it will be applied on a global basis and not on a per-user basis. The app only supports devices running Android 4.4 or higher, which made development significantly easier for the Periscope team over at Android.
