How to automatically save images and videos received in the Messages app to Camera Roll [Jailbreak Tweak] Normally, when you receive images or videos in the stock Messages app, they will not get saved to your Camera Roll. You need to save them manually. Apple hasn’t provided an option to enable this feature like WhatsApp, but MSGAutoSave8 is a new jailbreak tweak by developer sharedRoutine that aims to bring that functionality to Messages app. The tweak was previously available for iOS 7, however the latest package now comes bundled with support for iOS 8 as well as a few new additional features. MSGAutoSave8 lets you save all the media contents that you receive in the Messages app to your Camera Roll allowing you to view them later from the Photos app. The media contents include both images as well as videos received. This is quite similar to how WhatsApp handles the media contents you receive in the app. The new functionality of the tweak, which was missing

Chevron to integrate Apple Pay at the pump in 2015

Image
Chevron to integrate Apple Pay at the pump in 2015 Oil giant Chevron is working alongside Apple to develop solutions to integrate Apple Pay directly with its gas pumps in 2015, to allow customers to pay with their phone directly at the pump, the company revealed in a tweet on Monday. Chevron was one of the first partners alongside Apple when it launched Apple Pay in October, however it limited payments with the NFC chip to just the cashier inside, and it couldn’t be used directly at the pump. I don’t know about you, but I just swipe my card at the pump and never walk inside. Good on Chevron for trying to make it even easier – I wouldn’t mind just waving my iPhone. In a later tweet, Chevron said “a timeline is not set”, though it is working on the feature. It’d be interesting to know how costly it will be for the oil giant to rollout the technology. Surely other gas stations will follow suit. Apple Pay is still in its early days, however early data from Nove

Apple granted patent for a ‘communicating stylus’ that can display images or text wirelessly

Image
Apple granted patent for a ‘communicating stylus’ that can display images or text wirelessly The United States Patent and Trademark Office has awarded Apple a patent on a “Communicating stylus” that can be used to write on any surface, including a piece of paper and a whiteboard. The written text can then be subsequently displayed on any device. The patent also outlines that the stylus can be used in “three-dimensional space” and the images drawn can be displayed on a computing device. The stylus is able to track the various position using an accelerometer, which might be stored for a short period of time. The data can also be transmitted in short bursts to the computing device the stylus is paired to. As the stylus moves, one or more accelerometers may track the position and relative motion of a tip of the stylus. The stylus may store the output of the accelerometer(s) as position data for a period of time; position data may be transmitted in bursts to an

Quickly snap photos on your iPhone without launching the Camera app with QuickShoot Pro [Jailbreak Tweak]

Quickly snap photos on your iPhone without launching the Camera app with QuickShoot Pro [Jailbreak Tweak] Have you ever missed a perfect photo just because you were waiting for the Camera app to open on your iPhone? If you’ve faced such a situation before, you should probably check out a jailbreak tweak known as QuickShoot Pro that allows you to quickly snap pictures. The tweak lets you take pictures and videos quickly from the Home screen without having to launch the Camera app. It accomplishes this by requiring you to double tap on the Camera app icon to snap a picture right away and triple tap on the app icon to capture a video. Once it has started recording a video, you can then triple tap on the Camera app icon again to stop it. This way, a photo or a video is taken without having to open the Camera app. However, this method is redundant since you can now slide the Camera icon on the Lock screen to capture photos or videos right away, but the tweak also allows

How to reduce your iPhone or iPad’s brightness below default level without jailbreaking

How to reduce your iPhone or iPad’s brightness below default level without jailbreaking If you use your iPhone or iPad at night, even the lowest level brightness may, at times, feel too bright. Luckily, there’s a way to turn down the brightness even below the minimum level, but that setting is hidden inside iOS’ wide variety of accessibility features. Here’s how to turn down your iPhone or iPad’s screen brightness below what Control Center allows you: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, and turn the brightness all the way down from Control Center. Open Settings and navigate to General > Accessibility > Zoom Scroll down, and turn on the “Show Controller” setting. Go back one page, and scroll down go to “Accessibility Shortcut” Select Zoom. You can now access the Zoom menu by triple clicking your home button. Go back to your home screen, and triple click the home button to bring up the Zoo

All App Store submissions after February 1st must be optimized for iOS 7

Image
All App Store submissions after February 1st must be optimized for iOS 7 Apple just sent out a notice to developers letting them know of some changes to the App Store coming in February next year. Starting February 1st, 2014, all new apps submitted to the App Store must be built with the latest version of Xcode 5 and optimized for iOS 7. This new policy will apply to all submissions — both new apps and app updates.  What does this mean to the average user? Not too much as most app developers are adapting to latest version of iOS and have been working on updates since iOS 7 was introduced earlier this year. The biggest impact will be on abandoned apps that are only being minimally maintained by developers. You know these apps — they have an endless cycle of “bug fixes and improvements,” but no new features or major updates. Developers of these apps will be faced with a major decision — they can shutter their app and leave it on iOS 6 forever o

VLC for iOS to return to the App Store soon

Image
VLC for iOS to return to the App Store soon The highly popular open source media player — VLC — is coming back to the iOS App Store in the next week or so. The app was mysteriously pulled from the App Store in September this year.  The team behind VLC did not reveal the exact reason as to why the app was pulled from the App Store, but many speculated that it was due to some licensing issues. Whatever the case may be, lead developer Felix Paul Kuehne says that the VLC for iOS app has already been uploaded to iTunes Connect and will be back on the App Store as soon as Apple gives it the green signal. The chances of that happening this year though are pretty bleak since iTunes Connect is shut down from December 22-29th and any app updates or submissions during this timeframe will be queued by Apple. So, all app releases or updates submitted before VLC will be first moderated by Apple employees, which makes it v

Apple introduces 14-day return policy in some EU countries for iTunes and App Store purchase

Image
Apple introduces 14-day return policy in some EU countries for iTunes and App Store purchase Return policies for purchases made from digital storefronts, including iTunes and the App Store, have come and gone over the years, but for some countries in the European Union, it looks like Apple has opened the doors yet again. Apple has introduced a new, no questions asked 14-day return policy for digital purchases made through iTunes, iBooks and even the App Store for some European Union countries. That includes Germany, Italy, France, the United Kingdom and many others. Before the change that Apple has recently implemented, the company’s terms and conditions said that a user had the right to withdraw from a transaction “without charge and without giving any reason until delivery of the product has started.” That essentially locked a user into an app, or other digital good, effective immediately once the purchase was made. Now, though, with the changes, there is a 14-da

AT&T and T-Mobile may owe you money: Here’s how to find out you’re entitled

AT&T and T-Mobile may owe you money: Here’s how to find out you’re entitled If you were a subscriber of T-Mobile or AT&T’s network in the last five years, then you might be entitled to receive some money from them. Earlier this month, T-Mobile settled its case with FCC on “mobile cramming” by agreeing to pay $90 million, including to customers who were wrongly charged by the Magenta carrier. AT&T had agreed to pay $105 million on the same issue back in October. While some of the money will be kept by FCC, the rest of the amount will be used by AT&T and T-Mobile to refund customers who they had charged fraudulently. “Those carriers have been profiting from those false, fraudulent fees to the tune of 30 to 40 cents of every dollar, and that is not only wrong, it’s illegal, and it should produce refunds for consumers, but it won’t automatically do so,” said U.S. Senator Richard Bl

The best Music app of 2014

Image
The best Music app of 2014 Beats Music Player Remember all that hype about Apple buying Beats for $3 billion earlier this year? Wasn’t that nuts? By the time Beats launched on iOS, so many other streaming music services had established themselves that it was hard to believe Beats was as successful as it was. One reason this app stands out from the others is the curated playlists. Unlike services like Sonza, which also creates curated playlists, Beats uses dedicated followers of music to build playlists with a human touch. If you don’t really know what you want to hear, but you are in a particular mood while participating in a specific activity, use The Sentence to find a playlist for you. Or, dig around through thousands of artists and millions of songs to find a specific album, band, or genre that is right for you. For $9.99 per month, you’ll have unlimited access to the entire Beats Music catalogue, which you can stream on demand or download for offline listening.
